Wands and Order uses a new journal game concept known as "series play." Below we have provided a brief explanation of how we think this play will work. This is an idea that the moderators are playing with and we reserve the right to change and edit this upon taking into account game changes and player feedback.
One of the greatest problems in Potterverse style gaming is the average length of time in a game, as well as the general period of seasonal hiatuses that occur during holidays and university finals' periods. This is commonly when games fall apart or when they lose momentum. All games have these periods of low energy - what we, as moderators, would like to do is use them to reenergize.
A series, in our sense of the word then, is a period of time in which there is an overarching theme and many plots (though by no means, all) will interact with and engage in that theme. The first series of WAO will center around the theme "disappearances," as characters delve into the kidnapping of members of several pureblooded families. The themes for subsequent serieses will develop based on concepts in play and player feedback. Taking a pause between serieses gives players the option of dropping characters that do not work for them, changing ideas and focuses, and new players a chance to come into the game at a start rather than a middle.
The rough schedule for serieses is as follows:
Series 1: July to January
Series 2: mid-January to mid-May
Series 3: June to mid-December
